Product Information

Issue 39 is a special tribute to Ronnie James Dio, Blackmore’s musical partner in the early years of Rainbow.

The centrepiece is a previously unpublished and revealing interview with Dio from 2001, following the release of ‘Magica’.  In it he talks about his close encounters with UFOs, and the spiritual world as well as his life on stage with Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio.

This issue also includes From Padavona to Dio: The Early Years, by Jeremy Whitted who runs the website, with a fascinating glimpse into Dio’s pre-Rainbow career that stretched back to the late fifties, complete with a discography of his rare, early recordings.

There are tributes to Dio from his fellow musicians and fans alike; details on the early Long Live Rock ‘n’ Roll studio mixes, and a personal appraisal of Dio’s solo work.

Issue 39 also includes an extract from the recently published book by former Purple and Rainbow tour manager Colin Hart.  Naturally it is from the Dio fronted era of Rainbow.

In addition there is all the usual Blackmore news including Deep Purple, Rainbow and Blackmore’s Night album reviews, further updates on Blackmore’s legendary cherry red Gibson, and an intriguing story of when Ian Paice and Rod Evans’s pre-purple band the Maze was supported by Deep Purple!
